After all of the athletic excitement of 2014 Sochi will take several years off from hosting international sporting events before bounding back onto the scene as one of the 11 Russian cities to host the 2018 World Cup. The Fisht Olympic Stadium will once again have the eyes of the world on it as the world’s most popular sport descends on Sochi and ten other Russian cities.
In 2014 Sochi will host the 22nd Winter Olympics for 16 days from February 7th to February 23rd. For those sixteen days Sochi will open its doors to thousands of athletes and competitors from all over the world. With the inclusion of 12 new events it will be the largest Winter Olympics to date.
In addition to the 22nd Winter Olympics in February Sochi will be proudly hosting the 11th Paralympic Winter Games from March 7th to March 16th. With 72 different events spread across nine days and the introduction of Para-snowboarding it promises to be an amazing encore of the Winter Games that will have concluded only 12 days prior.
As if hosting the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic games wasn’t enough, later in 2014 Sochi will also play host to the first Russian Formula One Grand Prix since 1914. As part of the plan to resurrect the race after a century of dormancy a new track, the 5.87 kilometer Sochi Olympic Park Circuit, is under construction along with the rest of Sochi’s Olympic Park.
